Stand With Black Women in Media
What have been some challenges working in media that are unique to your experience as a Black Woman?
"Having to constantly advocate for stories focusing on racial justice."
Notedd is a media company curating news for and by Black Women. With the increasted call of representation throughout media, Jasmine LaVerne & Co. led a survey asking entry level and veteran jouranlist, media producers, freelancers, and communications executives on their experience navigating the media industry as a woman of color. Respondnts of the survey noted challeges faced in navigating their career included upward mobility, navigating microaggressions and steroypes, mentorship, andearning proper compensation. The goal of this survey was to build brand awarness to Notedd and increasing readership amongst women of color.
To continue efforts of brand awareness and community engagement, our team developed an ambassador program led by women in the Northern, Southern, Mid-West, and Western regions of the US to lead virtual programming, curate regional news, and publish essays covering Notedds key themes.

As Entertainment Chair of Los Angeles Urban League Young Professionals, I raised over $100K of in-kind and monetary gifts to produce a two-day Entertainment Summit to educate and entertain the next generation of media professionals. Day one of the summit included a career fair with recruiting teams from Hulu, CAA, Disney, and HBO, workshops, and panels covering mental health, entrepreneurship by owning your career as a creative, and a cocktail reception. On day two, we celebrated the Future of the Industry awarding changemakers and activists in the Entertainment industry with a brunch and silent auction.
